Kelly There is a point when making my hot tea that I must slow down. It’s the dreaded honey drip. The viscosity and sweetness of the natural sweetener takes time. Sure I could speed it up by microwaving the gold goodness but maybe there is a lesson in the wait. The aroma of the honey wafts up as it drips into my steaming tea. It’s a moment where I have a choice to enjoy savor the moment and watch it drip or if I’m rushing I could turn the bottle over before I start my kettle and then push it out quickly. The amazing lesson is that I have to decide at the beginning of my tea process which path I’m going to take. So this slowing down takes intention and decision.
This parallels my bible time, I can soak in the word and be intentional in my time or I can set it up before I go to bed and wake up to a programmed time with God. Lately I’ve been leaning into a space where I am slow with my intention, but that isn’t always true and hasn’t always been true and won’t always be true. But when I slow down and savor the word, savor the time, and inhale the aroma of God – He always has something to tell me, to show me and to teach me. The word awakens on the page with a gold shimmer just like the slow drip of that honey.

Hi Annette, I’ve recently learned that I get so much more out of my time in the word if before I open my bible I breathe and I pray. If I rush into it my time with God and forget this step I’m somehow not aligned. I also find that I want to go deeper into the word and look at the original word in the Greek or the Hebrew using a software called Logos.
